Laraso's News

Posted by Laraso - November 14th, 2010

I am experimenting with a new game which is based primarily around explosions. All your weapons will be bombs or bomb related, and all enemy weapons will be bombs or bomb related. Currently, there is only one type of bomb and only one type of enemy, so I cannot say anything as to whether or not I will turn it into a full game at this point. The characters are primarily squares, so it is a refreshing break from Dot Avoider (for me at least). I would make them something more interesting but I will readily admit I suck at making graphics.

For anyone that actually cares, all this means is that I might be making a game where you blow crap up.

Dot Avoider 4 has been delayed because I can't fix this stupid bug.

I doubt anyone was looking forward to Dot Avoider 4, but I apologize if this post upsets anyone.

EDIT: I might post a link to a playable version of it if this completely fails somewhere.

EDIT 2: I doubt the world needed a fourth Dot Avoider, even though in my opinion it filled a niche in the usually monotonous gameplay that revolves around avoiding games, however crappy the graphics may be. I guess I COULD always start over from scratch, but whats the fun in that? I could make something else.

I have been stuck trying to get past this stupid glitch on the main menu where all of the game modes are unlocked by default. They are NOT supposed to be unlocked by default, and my script is written correctly... I have tried just about everything and I am getting fed up. I am probably going to ask for some sort of help on the SwishDB forums soon, but I am not sure... I might be able to fix it myself.

[EDIT]
I am ashamed to say that for some odd, strange, peculiar reason I will not be able to add a bestiary nor achievements to this game. It's hard to explain, but whenever I try using a script that works in any other game besides Dot Avoider 4, it doesn't work. I just can't get it to work, so you will have tto wait until I (maybe) make a Dot Avoider 5.)

[OLD POST]
Subject: "Leaderboards Are IN!!!"

I have recently discovered that MochiAds does NOT in fact force you to use ads with their leaderboards!!! Do you all know what this means? LEADERBOARDS!

That's right, you will now be able to save your high scores directly to the internet, and compete with others to get the top score!

Also, I have decided that I will just use this one post and edit it to post future news until Dot Avoider 4 is complete, so just keep checking back for all the latest news and updates.

[OLD POST]
Subject: "Dot Avoider 4: Now A Work In Progress!"

Well, I have just started work, soon after I posted that. You can almost call that ironic, but it really isn't. anyways, work is coming along very nicely, I already have the menus up and running, and a fully functional custom preloader. (By custom, I mean that you are given hints about the game while waiting for it to load.)

On the main menu, there is currently a "Play" button, an "Options" button, an "Achievements" button, an "Extras" button, and a "More Dot Avoider" button. Multiplayer will still be in Dot Avoider 4, except this time you will have to press the "Play" button to get to it.

The thing that I like about Dot Avoider 4, is that you can save your game, and not only can you save your game but you can also earn achievements and unlock new game modes and such. This adds not only a lot of content, but also a lot of replayability as well.

Honestly, though, I don't know how I am going to be able to put any music in this thing without going over Newground's stupid size limit. I will find a way, however... I will find a way...

Heh... A neat little feature that I personally think is pretty cool is I made some dots roam around on the main menu. It makes the main menu seem much less bland, that's for sure.

[OLD POST]
Subject: "Upcoming Game: Dot Avoider 4!"

Well, I have been thinking about it, and I am going to make a Dot Avoider 4. Yea, thats right, after 3 whole games of dot avoiding goodness you can rest assured that there is going to be one more.

I have a really embarrassing confession to make... The only variable I used in Dot Avoider 3 was the play time and score variables. Well, I have been messing around with flash for a while now and I would have to say that I have gotten pretty good with variables, and will be able to add much more content into the game than last time.

Unlike Dot Avoider 3, Dot Avoider 4 will put much of its focus on the Challenge mode seen in Dot Avoider 3. There will be many more unique dots than last time, and I am even going to include a bestiary so once you meet a special dot you can go back and read more about it in the bestiary.

I also plan on implementing save games, and having many statistics and possibly even rewards just for playing.

Leaderboards are still a little, well... "Ify" at the moment. I would be happy to tell you that I am able to implement MochiAd's leaderboard into Dot Avoider 4, but the thing is, I can't do that without also installing ads into my game, which I do not want. I have searched high and low for another solution but I keep ending up with a site that refers me back to MochiAds, so I think it would be safe to say that leaderboards have a 10% chance of making it into Dot Avoider 4.

Another idea that I have been toying around with is a campaign mode. It was actually suggested to me by one of my friends, and a campaign mode where all you do is avoid dots sounded kinda humorous to me, so I am thinking of putting it in.

I am also planning on putting in some easter eggs. I can't tell you anymore, because the rest is classified.

The last known new feature that I can think of right now is an achievment system.

The shortest way that I can sum this up is:

iser the Duck-Moo says oink?

No, but really... This is going to be epic! (For an avoider game...)

I might be making a Dot Avoider 4 sometime soon, expanding directly upon the challenge mode of Dot Avoider 3. After a week or two I will make an expansion pack that is generally just an endless mode add-on.

EDIT: Sorry, kinda sleepy. Tis was supposed to be a comment to the original topic but it became a whole new one. So, here is the old topic. Anyways, Dot Avoider 3 got accepted! Yay! It is constantly jumping from a 3.02 score to a 2.92 score. It kinda just goes to prove the fact that people really do only for either 5 or 0.

OLD: Dot Avoider 3 is almost finished. Most of you probably don't care, but I will go ahead and say it anyways. Dot Avoider 3 is going to be thousands of times better than number 2, with 4 different game modes, and an extra multiplayer feature. Now I know what your thinking, "Multiplayer mouse avoid game? What, do I need 2 mice?" No, multiplayer will have you or a friend take control of a dot and then attempt to chase the other player who is controlling the mouse. Sure, its probably not the greatest idea ever, but I imagine it would provide at least 2 minutes of fun. Now, the other game modes are Avoid, Endless, Timed, and Challenge. Avoid has you go through 20 levels, trying to survive until the time is up. Once you beat it, well, you don't get anything else but bragging rights. Endless is, well, endless. This is the game style that the previous Dot Avoider games have used. It isn't all that complex, but you do get to control the spawn limit of the dots. In this mode you can set the options so that there will be a max of 15 dots on the screen! That is insane! The next mode is Timed. In this mode you pick a time limit ranging from 1 minute to 10 minutes and then try to survive until the time runs out, where you will then be greeted by a win screen. Challenge mode has you up against... Unique dots. I'm not going to go into much detail here, because even though this isn't CF2, I want it to be a surprise for everyone. I want everyone to try and survive as long as they can so they can find out all of the unique dots themselves. Now if you have read this far, well, thanks. I'm glad you read a... who knows how many words this is post about my mouse avoiding game. Almost forgot, there will be 3 different songs in the game, but you will have to wait and find out which ones they are. (Or you could look at my "Favorite Audio".)

EDIT: Due to Flash Player limitations, I have had to cut a lot of stuff from the game. This includes the following: 1 song, Avoid Mode, Timed Mode. I wish I didn't have to, but I did. On the bright side, the game will get done much faster now that I don't have to make those 2 modes.
